Im Rahmen des 50-jährigen Jubiläums des Fachbereichs Architektur, Stadtplanung Landschaftsplanung (ASL) der Universität Kassel möchte die Publikation und die Ausstellung den historisch aufgeladenen Ort des Campusgeländes ins Bewusstsein zurückrufen.
Im Zentrum steht die Geschichte der Henschel-Werke, dessen enorme Bedeutung als Rüstungs- betrieb ursächlich für die Zerstörung Kassels durch alliierte Bombenangriffe im Zweiten Weltkrieg war, und die verschiedenen Projekte von Professor*innen und Studierenden der Gesamthochschule Kassel, die sich in den 1970er Jahren für die Umnutzung und weitgehenden Erhalt der Gebäude einsetzten. Das industrielle Areal und der Diskurs um die im Zuge der Campusneuplanungen 1979 abgerissenen Baustrukturen sollen anhand von historischen Fotos, den von Professoren geleiteten Seminaren, studentischen Projekten und Entwürfen sowie auf die breite Bevölkerung abzielende Protestaktionen erfahrbar werden.

As part of the 50th anniversary of the Department of Architecture, Urban Planning and Landscape Planning (ASL) at the University of Kassel, the publication and exhibition aims to recall the historically charged location of the campus site.
The focus is on the history of the Henschel-Werke, whose enormous importance as an armaments factory was the cause of the destruction of Kassel by Allied bombing raids in the Second World War, and the various projects by professors and students of the Gesamthochschule Kassel, who campaigned in the 1970s for the conversion and extensive preservation of the buildings. The industrial area and the discourse surrounding the building structures demolished in the course of the new campus planning in 1979 are to be made tangible by means of historical photos, the seminars led by professors, student projects and designs as well as protest actions aimed at the general public.
